A Message from Marc Dann and Eric Fingerhut About Ohio's Economy

We are at a crossroads. Before June 30th, the General Assembly will vote on new budget policies and an overhaul of Ohio's tax structure. These fundamental changes in the way Ohio operates will determine whether Ohio competes in the 21st century or continues on a downward economic slide. As Democrats we must act now to offer bold, innovative ideas to create jobs and get Ohio moving forward.   

As Democrats we are united in opposition to the Taft-Republican budget. We have a proposal, the Making Ohio Great Again Initiative, a plan that creates jobs and makes Ohio great again. 

For the past six years, Governor Taft, emboldened by a Republican dominated legislature, has failed to lead Ohio. Last month our unemployment rate was the highest since 1993, with Ohio's economy lagging 4% behind the national average. Tuition rates keep escalating with masses of talent leaving the state. While America has rebounded from the recent recession, Republican policies continue to devastate the economy and hemorrhage jobs. 

Governor Taft and Republicans are now offering radical tax proposals and failed budget priorities. Unfortunately, Taft's agenda is just more of the same - problem laden, unworkable, untested, risky proposals. Taft fails to create jobs, fails to create a fairer and better tax structure, fails to increase the availability of a college education, and fails to give all Ohioans the opportunity of achieving the American Dream. 

Making Ohio Great Again is a responsible, workable, credible alternative that will grow Ohio's economy and create jobs. It is an apples-to-apples comparison to Taft's plan, with a realistic focus on the next two-years.  

Our goals are simple: create jobs, grow the economy, and make Ohio great - turning the American Dream into an Ohio reality.
